Are you coping with a recent split from an ex, or trying aimlessly to get over someone you wanted but couldn’t have? Has the emotional pain left you crying on your bedroom floor at two in the morning, screaming Taylor Swift’s We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together at the top of your lungs with your mouth full of Ben and Jerry’s, Chocolate Therapy? It is true that time heals everything and there is no specific time limit for when you have to be over someone; however, here are eight other songs that will help you ease the pain cope with letting go of that special someone who has grown to mean a lot to you.
Just Give It Time by Jon McLaughlin– There is no denying the fact that losing someone is hard, but with each passing day, it all gets easier and the pain will begin to subside. In this song, McLaughlin sings “It’s gonna get better, now is not forever at all.” In other words, he is stating that the way you are feeling right now is not the same way that you are going to be feeling months down the road. You have to continue staying strong and realize that tomorrow is another day.
I Look So Good Without You by Jessie James Decker– If you’re looking for a fun, pop song to give you the confidence that you have seem to lost, look no further. In this song, Decker expresses that she deserves so much more than what her ex was able to give her. Some of her upbeat lyrics include “Done with your lies, baby now my tears dried. You can see my brown eyes, ever since you said goodbye.” So, don’t be afraid to leave those who hurt you behind.
Heartbeat by Childish Gambino– Heartbeat symbolizes how toxic it can be keeping in contact with an ex, which is why you need to cut ties all together. You cannot continue hooking up, especially if your old significant other has someone new in their life. Gambino raps “Are we dating? Are we f******? Are we best friends? Are we something in between that?” By keeping an ex on the side remotely as a friend with benefits, you’re only adding complications to the picture, which is not healthy to say the least.
Stay by Sugarland– This song focuses strictly on infidelity. It is in the point of view of a woman who is currently having an affair with a married man. She eventually learns not to believe a single word that comes out of his mouth, and realizes she no longer can be fed his lies. The song’s lyrics include “It’s too much pain to have to bear, to love a man you have to share.” Always remember, if they cheat with you, they will have no problem cheating on you.
Dancing On My Own by Ben Clark– This is a stripped down cover of a song originally done by Robyn. Clark’s version is not only raw, but it grasps the idea of being in love with someone who doesn’t notice you or give you the time of day. “It’s a big black sky over my town, I know where you’re at, I bet he’s around.” It’s important to love yourself before you can love anyone else. This is the perfect song to inspire you to do just that.
I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston– You’re lying to yourself if you don’t belt this song each and every time you hear it. This classic hit by the great Whitney Houston makes you find com fort in ending a relationship peacefully and with no bad blood. Originally written by Dolly Parton, this song brings to life beautiful lyrics such as “Bittersweet memories, that is all I’m taking with me.” You genuinely cherish the special connection you had with this individual, and will always carry a piece of them with you wherever you go.
F*** It (I Don’t Want You Back) by Eamon– Although VEVO felt the need to censor this song, it still is an absolute breath of fresh air that will be stuck in your head for days. In my opinion, it’s probably one of the most honest, emotional, songs out there. After every breakup, it is evident to feel some type of anger. “You put me through pain, I wanna let you know how I feel.” You can’t not relate with this jam. Eamon completely wears his heart on sleeve, pouring his soul into every annunciation of the word “f***.”
Miserable At Best by Mayday Parade– There are so many emotions and tears with this one. From my interpretation, he knows he can do so much more with his life and needs to become what he feels is a man before he can be with her. “I know I’m good for something, I just haven’t found it yet.” This song will be with you every time you feel like curling up on the floor and letting your heart completely shatter. Strength truly comes when you finally exhaust all weakness.
